Too Much of Nothing Introducing Neglect-Informed Psychotherapy
- 11th September 2024

Embark on a Journey of Healing and Transformation
Join Ruth Cohn, MFT, for a practical day-long workshop on Neglect Informed Psychotherapy, an approach specifically designed for adults with the attachment trauma of neglect. This session will delve into the developmental underpinnings of neglect, including failed or missing attachment experiences; its neuroscience and some biology; and key markers for seeing and recognising what has heretofore mostly been invisible and un-noticed, and the devastating impacts of all that has been missing, most notably relationship repair.
The interpersonal world, or lack thereof is where survivors of neglect experience their most taxing and often painful difficulties, and the challenge of relationships is what most often brings them to our psychotherapy offices. A critical, yet often neglected, topic that will be addressed is the complex arena of sexuality, which can pose unique challenges in the face of neglect trauma. Despite its profound importance in our lives, sex is frequently shrouded in silence and discomfort, leading to its exclusion from essential conversations. Neglect survivor clients and patients in particular, often being confused in the first place about what may be “wrong” may be hesitant due to taboo, shame, or awkwardness, and are all too often shy or afraid to ask or tell. The workshop will address the vitally important therapist qualities of ease and fluency in raising the subject, gentle inquiry, and ease and comfort with the material inside themselves. The workshop will offer a rough overview and a roadmap for addressing often overlooked and ignored impacts of neglect trauma.
