- 11th September 2024
- Examination Schools, 75-81 High Street, Oxford OX1 4BG, United Kingdom and Online
Embark on a day of transformative learning
Grounded in the Internal Family Systems framework, this session explores Legacy Burdens—emotional weights transmitted across generations due to unresolved family, societal, and historical traumas.
Delving into the global cultural burdens of White Supremacy Culture, discussions will cover racial trauma, intersectionality, societal power dynamics, and the delicate balance between shame and self-compassion.
What you'll experience
Internal Family Systems (IFS) describes Legacy Burdens as an emotional or psychological weight that is passed down through generations. These include unresolved family, societal, systemic or historical traumas, and negative beliefs/behavior patterns passed from previous generations that impact an individual’s capacity to truly remain present in the moment.
Legacy Burdens can manifest in various ways and at various levels including personal, relational, communal and cultural. The global cultural burdens of White Supremacy Culture has resulted in mass generational dehumanization and widespread psychospiritual demoralization.
In this workshop, we will discuss: racial trauma, epigenetics/intergenerational impact, intersectionality, patterns of societal power dynamics, the role of shame vs self compassion, and evidenced based trauma informed interventions.
The key learning concepts of this training aim to foster awareness, critical thinking and the development of skills to transform legacy burdens to legacy gifts.

- Analyze the systemic and institutional context of White Supremacy Culture, especially as it relates to health and wellness.

- Explore intersectionality as a framework to acknowledge the compounding effects of race, class and gender.

- Define commonly used terms such as diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging. privilege, and accountability.
